About Martine
As a lifelong wearer of glasses for severe short-sightedness, 1992 was another crucial turning point with the incorporation of 'yoga for eyesight' into Martine's everyday life. Believing her chronic myopia to be a significant obstacle in her quest to 'see' the Self more clearly, Martine discarded her glasses and contact lenses. With the help of Ayurveda, she recovered her eyesight completely. As she learned more about this unique 'science of life', she realised it to be the key to her development of self-awareness. Over the next seven years, Martine's spiritual quest took her to Antibes (France), where she took her first steps into Sri Aurobiudo's philosophy of Integral Yoga and launched a centre to teach Ayurveda for eyesight, Ayurvedic cooking, and massage. But she soon realised she could not treat eyesight without dealing with the individual's whole health background and this led her to the art of missed pulse-reading. As Ayurvedic pulse-reading was not available in Europe, she decided to take a year out and went to India in September 1999. In Bombay, she studied pulse-reading and Panchkarma at Dr. Naram's Ayushakti Ayurveda Health Clinic, a profound experience which enabled her, as both student and patient, to see inside the complex web of the disease process. There she learned how diseases inter-connect and develop, how the balance of good health can be disrupted, and how to re-balance spirit, mind and body. In her own case, the True Self was revealed to her when Martine came close to death following an intensive programme of treatments based on a mal-diagnosis of her own Ayurvedic constitution. The experience, although terrifying at the time, was not altogether detrimental as it did aid in the dissolving of her ego - an essential process on the path to self-realisation. It also, of course, made her crucially aware of the importance of careful, correct diagnosis of an individual's Ayurvedic constitution and the need for appropriate treatments thereafter. Since her return to France, Martine has been reconstructing the principles of spiritual, mental and body health. She currently runs a practice near Montpellier as an Ayurvedic Health Educator (Diploma of European Institute of Vedic Studies). |
